What's the best day and time for a birthday party?

Q:

Hi PD! I’m planning my son’s 7th birthday party, and I’m not sure what day or time to plan it. I’ll probably have his party over the weekend because I know people have too much going on during the week, and so do we. But I want to choose a time that’s convenient for other parents.

What’s the best day and time for a birthday party?

A:

Thanks for asking. We were curious too, so we decided to do a poll. We asked moms all over the US to see if there was a favorite day or time for a birthday party for an elementary school age kiddo.

Specifically, we asked moms if they preferred:

Friday afternoon from 3:00-5:00 PM
Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM
Saturday morning from 10:00 AM - Noon
Saturday afternoon from 2:00 - 4:00 PM
Saturday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 PM
Sunday morning from 10:00 AM - Noon
Sunday afternoon from 2:00 - 4:00 PM

The results came in, and 80% of the moms we polled voted for Saturday afternoon from 2:00 - 4:00 PM. The second most popular time for a birthday party, with 12% of the vote, was Saturday morning from 10 AM - Noon. Third place was a tie sharing 3% each. Those moms voted for Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and Sunday afternoon from 2:00 - 4:00 PM.

It’s always likely one or two of your guests might have a scheduling conflict. We’re sure there’s some wiggle room in there too, in case your party begins at 1 PM or ends at 5 PM. Depending on your child’s age, an earlier or later time might be better. For example, you might need to schedule before a toddler’s afternoon nap time and host a toddler party at a play place at 11:00 AM, or maybe your 11 year old tween wants to do a pizza party followed by an escape room adventure with friends at 6:00 PM. That being said, if you throw a kid party on a Saturday afternoon, chances are it’s the best and most convenient time for everyone.
